Staying Rogue: On (Not) Having Tenure-line Status
Crystal L. Mueller, University of Wisconsin Oshkosh

ABSTRACT
Past arguments have insisted that tenure lines are best for writing center directors, but recent survey
and interview studies call that assumption into question and argue for alternative models. This article
offers a case study from personal experience that shows non-tenurable faculty lines can be best,
depending on institutional context, and invites readers to consider practical and philosophical reasons
that would be so.
