Ethics Education in the Clinical Setting
Felicia Cohn, University of California, Irvine
Bill Rudman, University of Mississippi
To integrate ethics education for medical students into the clinical setting,
the University of California, Irvine College of Medicine is piloting an ethics
liaison program. Building on a study that demonstrated the benefit of ethics
consultation in the intensive care setting, ethics committee members work with
specific clinical units to offer instruction in the identification and resolution
of ethical issues. Goals of the liaison program include creating a dynamic
environment for integrated ethics education and the development of ethics role
models.
